Abstract:
The cost of construction projects is significantly influenced by the materials being used and
any delays in material procurement can have a significant impact on the overall timeline and
cost of the project. This study aims to address material procurement and management issues by
enjoining the project schedules with inventory databases by using a BIM environment. Through
a review of relevant literature, a questionnaire was developed which identified numerous
present inefficiencies in material procurement and inventory management. To address these
identified issues, this study formulated a theoretical framework and developed a BIM-based
platform on NavisWorks to digitize material procurement. A BIM plug-in (MatGov) connects
the 4D models in NavisWorks to the mobile app developed for public use. The study concludes
that a BIM-based material procurement and inventory management system will benefit clients
and contractors alike
