Abstract:
This work presents the problem of shortfall in the supply of electrical energy that is currently
faced by Pakistan. The root cause of the shortage in the supply of energy is mentioned in this
work. Previous as well as the present situation of electricity production and its consumption
in the country is discussed. The electricity generation potential of Pakistan in different sectors
is viewed. Importance of utilization of hydropower in production of electricity is emphasized.
Pakistan has been blessed with rich and vast renewable energy resources. These renewable
energy resources can play effective and considerable role in contributing towards energy
independence of country. Moreover factors responsible for underutilization of hydro
generation system are also explored, grey areas are identified and recommendations
suggested.
