Abstract:
Although last decade has proved itself as an era of innovations in
micromanipulation, but still not a lot of work has been done in the field
involving diagnoses of critical diseases like cancer. This thesis proposes a
technique that can help diagnose cancer in its pre malignant form, i.e.
Dysplasia. Novel MEMS based micro gripper was designed; optimized and
prototyped using SOI MUMPS to micro manipulate cells, i.e. extract them from
the tissues, place them and finally characterize them for diagnoses. A complete
analytical model is laid down that is further used a comparison standard. A
critical FEA analysis was done to guarantee device operation. The total size of
the device is 3.76mm×2.86mm.
