THE IMPACTS OF TECHNOLOGY ON EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, LABOR SKILLS AND UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN PAKISTAN

Abstract

The 20th century has witnessed big developments in the scientific research and innovations. These developments resulted in the improvements in the living standards of the human beings by the introduction of the advanced technology in every sector of life. The modern world is driven by an unending stream of new products turned out by factories employing radically new technologies, skills, and organization. Technological innovations are the most tangible results of this new, accelerated mode of reproduction. The introduction of the new technology and advanced systems in the manufacturing and the services sectors has changed the old and manual systems to the automatically controlled systems. These changes in the manufacturing practices have very positive impacts on the economy and quality of the products. But the advanced technology also has its impacts on the employees working on these advanced systems. The introduction of the new technology solutions in the companies has its impacts across the globe on the employment opportunities and the skills needed to work on the new systems. The purpose of the research work is to do an analysis of the impacts of the use of new Technology on the employment opportunities and labor skills needed to operate and control the new technology systems in Pakistan. As with the introduction of new technology solutions in any manufacturing industry increases the role of the services section in implementing the new technology and with this the employment opportunities are shifted towards the service providing companies. Also the skills of the labor working on the manual systems are not enough for the recent technology processes to be controlled and operated. So the use of new technology has big effect on the skills of the labor needed. And all this have a collective impact on the rate of unemployment. The Research approach is comparative, as more will be the use of advanced technology, more it will affect the manufacturing and services sector and the employment opportunities. The research work will give an overview of current status of the manufacturing industry regarding the use of new technology. And then its effects on the services sector and employment opportunities as compare to other countries. The Research will be of great value at the national level because it offers the recommendations to improve the industrial and services sector and to decrease the rate of unemployment with the help of new technology.
