Abstract:
In this age of wireless communication and wireless networks the need to transmit high data
rates without the expense of high transmit powers and high bandwidth utilization has proven
continuous phase modulation (CPM) one of most attractive modulation schemes in band limited
channels. It is for this reason that NATO uses binary CPM modulation for wireless
communication at physical layer for its narrow band channel i.e. 25KHz. Increasing the data rate
directly increases spectral Width of CPM which become a direct source of inter symbol
interference (ISI) and hence depredating the overall efficiency of system in channels with limited
capacity.
We propose a solution to the reception of band limited CPM signal that is based on Soft input
soft output (SISO) MLSE receiver/Equalizer using the model of Andres- Moctezuma [1] with a
serial concatenation of well known BCJR decoder. At the end performance of this receiver is
evaluated using Stanford University Interim channel (SUI). Simulation results shows marked
differences in bit error rate performance for conventional versus proposed receiver.
