Abstract:
Energy is required to drive equipment in the Gas processing industry. Energy costs incurred
by various energy systems, present in each Gas processing plant, constitute major part of the
plant operating expenditures. Optimization of energy systems can help reduce the operating
costs of the gas plants and play a part in ensuring the sustainable development of the society.
Project is aimed at development of an optimization model (based on case study of Sawan gas
plant) which can be used as a guideline for optimization of the gas processing plants in
general. Energy systems at Sawan gas plant have been studied as case study. Sawan gas plant
is selected as it contains most of the energy systems present in other gas processing plants.
For all the systems, different techniques for optimization, based on existing system
operational data, design/technology change and SOP changes have been proposed.
Technological aspects for proposed changes have been considered with reference to impact
on the performance of the existing system. Financial analysis has also been carried out to
find out the impact of the proposed changes. Based on both the technological and financial
performance, various optimization techniques have been compared. Based on the approach
followed for optimization of Sawan gas plant energy systems, an optimization model has
been developed which outlines a step by step approach towards optimizing the energy
systems in gas processing industry.
