This thesis is an endeavor to elucidate the phenomena Business Process Re-design
as the most effective and rational solution to deal with the diminishing competitiveness and
dwindling productivity of public sector industrial organizations in Pakistan. Such
organizations owing to their rigid hierarchies and cultural inertia often suffer from
non-productive overheads in the shape of non-value added activities and processes. The
budgetary constraints on spending further aggravate the situation by restraining them from
acquiring the latest technology. It is felt that, the absence of a systematic approach to
periodically analyze, control and improvise the existing production systems and processes
has subjected these industrial organizations to perpetual degeneration. Consequently, even
the induction of latest technology seldom helps to bring significant improvement in the
productivity. The present study specifically focuses on the manufacturing system of one
such organization for the application of Business Process Re-design to obtain general
results, applicable to majority of public sector industrial organizations, through
identification and elimination of the non-value-added processes in the existing production
systems and hence the possibility to achieve superior competitive performance in terms of
the quality, the cost, and the cycle time reduction. |
