dc.description.abstract Playful learning is an approach that uses play to support discovery learning and problem-solving. In an online learning environment that aims to teach STEM education, incorporating playful learning is a challenge especially during instances such as the COVID19 lockdown. The purpose of this study is to overcome this challenge and explore the effectiveness of using playful techniques by incorporating elements of game design and robotics to teach STEM concepts in an online learning environment. This study investigates the effects of using playful learning in online STEM education on student engagement and effective learning. Through this research, it has been found that using robotics to engage students in playful learning results in higher levels of cognitive, affective and behaviour engagement. en_US
