Abstract:
Globalization and immense development of technology in today's world has reshaped the meaning
of competitiveness. By analyzing the literature relevant to this topic we can come to a conclusion
that Technology and Competitiveness represents two sides of the same coin. To progress in today's
world without progressing in technology seems inconceivable. Leading organizations in service
sector have created significant use of technology at their value chains to seize competitive
advantage. Software development industry being one of the prominent service sectors in Pakistan
has seen rapid growth over the past decade. Despite of its growth it has been lagging behind when
Local firms compete with multinational firms in global arena. This paper tries to identify key
activities lying underneath the Value Chain of a software development firm, analyze the role of
technology at value chain level of a service sector organization and its impact on competitiveness
through survey and use the results to establish a conceptual framework to identify relationship
between technology and competitiveness, possible impact of technology on Value Chain activities,
identify weak areas that need improvements and recommend practical aspects for Pakistani
Software Industry.
