Abstract:
The management of diverse information has gained utmost importance in the healthcare
community. The biggest hurdle in passing the information seamlessly across the
enterprise is the lack of integration and interoperability. Integrating the Healthcare
Environment IHE is a framework to achieve interoperability in an Intranet based
environment.
The thesis has proposed a method to build integrated medical application for the
execution of internet based IHE workflows. As Interoperability and Health information
exchange is more inclined towards the business concept instead of being technical. Hence
another goal is to provide application integration using business process in Service
Oriented (SOA) Environment.
In Proposed methodology, the IHE Laboratory workflows are mapped as Business
process in the real world scenarios using Business Process Executable language (BPEL).
For this purpose, the contents of IHE Lab TF are structured and the requirements of
medical e-services are defined. An open source API HAPI is used for generating and
building HL7 messages. Various fields in HL7 message segments are extracted and
manipulated to create WSDL, BPEL and XML files for initiating business process. The
business process interoperates with web services of IHE actors and represents IHE
workflows.
The major achievement of proposed framework is the alignment of IHE workflows with
BPEL process and interoperability in healthcare across internet. The implementation of
IHE system in terms of business process will help to achieve the true practical
interoperability in the field of Healthcare
