Abstract:
Pakistan has long been characterized by poor vision, the thirst for power and corruption which have cumulatively prevented each successive government from focusing on a well thought out and legitimate plan for improving the country’s state of affairs in terms of its water management. Resultantly, this failure can be held responsible for Pakistan’s current status as a severely water stressed country. Water is an important component within any society and has an impact on all aspects of social life. As a result, water management is often studied under the category of a social issue because the masses depend upon clean and safe access to water for survival. This study therefore aims to investigate the interaction between water management and water insecurity and their impact on health, living standards and social justice. The study employs a qualitative and quantitative approach involving the collection of both primary and secondary data in order to determine whether a statistically significant relationship exists between water insecurity, water management and governance with the variables of health, living standards and social justice. For this purpose, SPSS analysis was used to determine the statistical relationship between the independent and dependent variables coupled with a thematic analysis of the qualitative data to identify distinctive patterns in the data. The results of the empirical analysis thus revealed that there was a greater relationship between social justice and water allocation and management processes.
