dc.description.abstract This project is an extension of the work carried out by Ms. Hira Jaffar of BIT-7. The project is aimed at effective utilization of human resource and improvement in security of organization’s assets using information and communication technology. The goals have been achieved through automating the attendance system and access control using centrally managed Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. RFID readers located at various entry points to different physical zones read the RFID tags of those who enter or leave each zone. The person is granted the access if he is an authorized person of the organization. Once the person got the access, system marks the individual’s attendance on the basis of the collected information from readers. High profile security breaches have led the organizations to develop or revise their security systems for reducing vulnerabilities. Posting a guard for manually checking ID’s is considered to be an inefficient procedure for the organization. Manual Process is time consuming to make entries for each person coming in and leaving the buildings and authenticate them by checking their ID’s. It is more like an expense for the organization and the ultimate objective is not achieved. Organizations needs to pay lot of attention towards physical access control as if it is not supported, organizational information and access control becomes more exposed to Access Control and Attendance System (ACATS) vii List of Figures security breaches. Our system aims to focus this domain of security systems and help in automating the access to buildings and rooms of the organization. The main objective of development of such security system is to reduce the communication gap between the supervisors and staff members, therefore achieving the system transparency in the organizations. The attendance system for faculty and employees is also designed using this system to ensure automatic attendance marking which would help concerned authorities to make decisions based on real time data. The system would mark the attendance of the person by reading the RFID-tag of the card provided to him while he is entering or leaving the building or research-lab. en_US
