Abstract:
Seismic-induced pounding poses a grave concern in developing countries, particularly in regions
where adherence to structural gap provisions specified by the code is lacking. Extensive research
has been dedicated to investigating the profound effects of seismic pounding. This particular study
aims to assess the potential damage caused by seismic pounding in the unregulated areas of
Islamabad, considering the nonlinear performance levels (Immediate Occupancy, Life Safety,
Collapse Prevention) of the structure. To accomplish this, a meticulous Non-Linear Time History
Analysis (NLTHA) procedure is employed. Three carefully selected ground motions are utilized
in this study, and their response spectra are meticulously matched with those characteristics of
Islamabad. By employing this comprehensive approach, the study enables real-time modeling of
the structural damage resulting from seismic pounding, offering valuable insights into the potential
risks involved
