dc.description.abstract Despite of the difficulties in correct soil exploration, its necessity remained unavoidable at every period of time. Geophysical surveys have proven economical and effective techniques to unleash the subsurface features of the universe. Keeping in view the advancement and speedy procedures of constructions, geophysical techniques are aimed to develop robust techniques of ground exploration. In this study, seismic refraction method, a type of geophysical survey has been used to map the subsurface conditions of the soil. A 12-channel seismograph (Seistronix, RAS-24) has been used for selected sites in conjunction to the traditional bore hole technique of soil exploration. Important soil parameters have been estimated practically by this technique and have been compared with the soil parameters obtained by the conventional methods of soil testing. This study clearly shows that seismic refraction technique is an effective geophysical survey, when used in conjunction to the bore hole data, may lead to quick and economical approximate soil parameters and subsurface lithology of soil for large projects like dams, highways etc. en_US
