dc.description.abstract Oil and Gas sector is by far the biggest industry which drives other industries such as locomotives and power generation. Projects in plant manufacturing business are characterized by low margins and high risks. The knowledge and support of critical success factors, i.e. influencing factors that explain the success of a project, can provide as a basis and tool for plant manufacturing companies to improve their competitiveness. However, there is not much research conducted in Pakistan particularly of identifying and analysing critical success factors in petroleum industry / Oil and Gas sector / plant manufacturing business / engineering projects. This contribution aims to close this research gap. In an extensive literature review existing success factors of other research fields are studied. 47 factors were taken on their applicability for engineering projects in a survey questionnaire. If plant manufacturers consider these factors in project design and planning, project and business success can be influenced in a positive way. en_US
