dc.description.abstract Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is a multicarrier modulation scheme, used in various applications such as audio broadcasting, wireless networks and 4G mobile communications. OFDM supports high data rate for transmission. One of the major drawbacks of OFDM is Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). High PAPR in OFDM is responsible for distortion of signal. Different techniques are presented to overcome this problem. But in these techniques there is a tradeoff between complexity, PAPR, BER and side information. We will use an efficient PAPR reduction techniques which can decrease the BER as compared to other PAPR reduction techniques. Software Defined Radio (SDR) has recently gained considerable attention because of its flexibility. Our interest is in the implementation of these PAPR reduction techniques on SDR platform using MATLAB and XILINX. By maintaining BER-PAPR reduction tradeoff, we implement it on SDR platform and observe real time results. We build a library of these PAPR reduction techniques for SDR and SDR selects an appropriate PAPR reduction technique according to its requirement of BER, PAPR, side information and availability of hardware resources. For this purpose different Companding techniques, Selective Mapping (SLM) and Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) studied and implement it on MATLAB. By comparing their results we select Piece –Wise Linear Companding (PWLC) and SLM for PAPR reduction and implement these techniques on SDR platform. We compare the results of MATLAB and XILINX to ensure the specific reduction in PAPR on SDR platform. At the end we discuss device utilization summary of these techniques. en_US
