dc.description.abstract The mode of communication in this era has moved from slow communication to click & connect concept. The BURQ( lightening thunder) speed of modern communication is materialized due to incredible spread of Internet; making it a basic human necessity. Think tanks, decision makers, traffic carrier & service provider are investing time and resources in IP Based Communication in business models. The desire of having a unified network capable of handling all sorts of communication emerged in early 90’s. Yahoo voice/video chat and net2phone provided a basic working model, which has now matured into cost effective unified communication platforms. Prominent telecommunication companies backed by a mature telephony history, notably Nokia, Alcatel, Mitel, Panasonic, Digium and Cisco have shifted their focus on packet switched networks. New communication protocols H.323 and SIP started to gain popularity desiring to have a unified mean of communication. This research work is also a sequel of this migration strategy in an educational institution from traditional circuit to packet switched network. The goal was to study traditional PBX system installed in CEME, with subsequent replacement with an IP Based System. The approach of sort & select through research; in commensuration with latest market/ industrial trends was adopted throughout the research process. en_US
