Retreat Resort: a nostalgic experience of Murree

Abstract

In Pakistan, tourism is a growing industry and is an emerging field considering the revenue generation potential of a retreat resort, also considering the tourist inclination towards scenic beauty and weather of hill stations in Pakistan, such a project could help promote the tourism industry. For years, Murree, being one of the most popular and go-to hill station of Pakistan, attracts visitors year-round due to cooler temperatures in the summer, snowfall in winter, scenic beauty, and the rich biodiversity of the region. The need to accommodate and have recreational activities for visitors in this hill station has increased over the past few years which is evident from the number of visitors visiting Murree. The originality of this place has worn off very much because of increased commercialization. This thesis intends to recapture that Nostalgic experience of staying in Murree. There is a need to promote eco-tourism in Murree and architecture plays an important part in this as it expresses the natural surroundings through space. This covers design problems related to resort and tourist space, from program formulation, site selection, case studies, literature reviews, research, and design. The project will try to incorporate all the necessary facilities and amenities that attract and promotes ecotourism.
