Abstract:
The proposed project aims to address the increasing threat of floods in the Nowshera region by introducing a flood protection reservoir along the Kabul River. This study employs a comprehensive hydrological approach to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the reservoir in mitigating flood risks. Through extensive data collection and analysis, including historical flood records, hydrological modeling, and topographical mapping, the project evaluates the hydrological dynamics of the Kabul River basin. Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and hydraulic modeling techniques using HEC-RAS software, potential reservoir sites are identified and evaluated based on their capacity to capture and regulate excess water during peak flow events. Furthermore, the project incorporates capacity and endurance peak flow time of the proposed reservoir. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the feasibility and benefits of implementing a flood protection reservoir on the Kabul River, offering a proactive solution to enhance flood resilience and safeguard communities in the Nowshera region.
