Abstract:
Achieving security/ safety using GSM by binding IMEIs with IMSIs and mapping ID
with IMSI-IMEI in existing infrastructure; submitting a solution for users’ convenience
using multiple authentication mechanisms. The concept can be visualized on similar
lines as MAC Binding on Ethernet and WiFi but on a larger scale with device/ credentials
authentication and individual verification. Every user i ssued with a SIM card
(containing IMSI-ID binding in the mobile service provider (MSP) will be registered
with mobile phones IMEI desired to be used with the Mobile Service Provider (MSP).
Individual identity (ID) and IMEI mapping will be broadcasted to all MSPs by the
Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TA) and the database will be maintained by
the TA and Public Registration Authority (PRA) already accessible by MSPs. IMEIs
presently being used will be initially registered with existing users and mechanisms will
be proposed for new users/ phones subsequently. Users can however change Mobile Set
(MS) when desired after necessary verification from MSPs; multiple verification solutions
will be proposed.
