dc.description.abstract |
Proper asphalt compaction is essential for the construction of reliable roads. However, it is difficult to achieve the required consistency in compaction while being efficient using track mounted vehicles, such as rollers if they are not properly aligned. Misaligned rollers cause several problems including uneven compaction, surface defects, increased fuel consumption and reduced productivity. This project aims to design and integrate a novel sensor into track mounted vehicles for precise alignment in consecutive rollers. This will help to maintain uniform compaction and a certain overlapping distance between the rollers. This system will use sensors to align itself with the preceding vehicle by providing feedback to the operator for adjusting the alignment. The successful completion of this project will lead to a significant improvement in the fuel consumption and efficiency of rollers. It will help to ensure that the vehicles are always properly aligned. This will result in improved compaction quality and consistency, reduced maintenance costs and increased productivity. The project is expected to have a significant impact on the road construction industry by improving the quality of work and reducing costs. |
