Abstract:
Pollution and greenhouse gases have become a global issue, resulting in pollution of air, water, soil, and ecosystem damage. The construction industry plays a role as well in the emission of harmful pollutants, and land degradation.
Rubber and glass are two of the biggest pollutants produced in large quantities and discarded. Both are non-biodegradable materials, produced in large quantities, which can have a serious negative impact on the environment if not properly disposed of. Similarly, the production of concrete has a similar harmful impact on the environment with the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) and greenhouse gases.
The main purpose of this project is to make environmentally friendly concrete having less adverse effects on the environment and reduction of emission of carbon dioxide (CO2). Also using glass and rubber in this process.
To counter this problem, we can partially replace aggregate and cement with crumb rubber and glass respectively, making it environmentally friendly and lightweight concrete (LWC). Rubber and glass have different effects on concrete. For this project, we used six combinations of different glass and rubber concentrations, R5G21, R5G24, R10G18, R10G21, and R10G18 in which we compared the compressive, flexural, and split tensile strength of rubber and glass concrete with ordinary concrete.
