Abstract:
On a five-yearly basis and starting in 1988, the Bored and Auger Pile Seminars have been organized in
Ghent.
The intriguing complexity of the soil-pile interaction and its related load-settlement behaviour do
justify such specialized topic meetings, especially in case of bored and even more of screw piles.
Contractors, designers and academicians complied once more in the proceedings their new approaches
and developments of the last five years, elucidating the today’s state-of-the-art from pile installation, pile
testing and pile capacity-evaluation point of view.
Newly implemented topics such as energy pile concepts are involved as well in this edition of the BAP
events. For sure, this might indeed become a much more relevant issue in the coming decade.
This fifth Bored an Auger Pile Seminar hopefully will also contribute to a better and more efficient
professional interaction of specialized contractors, designers and academicians gathering in the
discussion sessions this week.
It’s the main editor’s pleasure to thank sincerely all members of the Scientific and the Organizing
