The purpose of this documentary is in-depth exploration of the historical, architectural, and
cultural significance of Poonch House, revealing its past grandeur, current decline, and the
urgent call for its preservation for future generations. The project I propose is an expository
documentary that falls under the genre of cultural heritage preservation and historical
documentation. The documentary will follow a chronological narrative, starting with the
historical significance of Poonch House and its evolution over time.
Poonch House embodies the collective memory and identity of our nation. And as it fades,
documenting its history becomes an important reminder of the urgent need to cherish and
protect our past for the sake of a meaningful future. This documentary serves as a powerful
reminder that our heritage holds many untold stories of utmost historical significance.
Poonch House, located in Rawalpindi, bustling heart, once hosted kings, prime ministers,
and military courts within its opulent walls. Constructed 150 years ago, this architectural
masterpiece blended European and Indian influences, adorned with intricate Kashmiri
woodwork and magnificent masonry. But now, it’s a shadow of its former self.
Whitewashed walls conceal fading artwork, and the majestic halls have given way to
government offices. We journey through time, interviewing experts and those who
currently occupy this historic edifice, highlighting why preserving heritage buildings like
Poonch House is crucial. We should advocate for the preservation of this national treasure,
ensuring that the future generations can connect with their roots. |
