Abstract:
Bridges serve as links between roads which if rendered non-functional, can lead to major
disruption in the logistics of that region in addition to the day to day travel of local inhabitants.
Moreover, bridges are one of the most valuable infrastructure assets of a country. Available budget
for maintenance and rehabilitation is mostly not sufficient for holding the system in a certain
condition level during its service life. In Pakistan bridge maintenance isn't as prioritized as their
construction until there is any structural failure. This research shall analyze construction types,
damages (of bridges present on National Highways of Pakistan) & their trends based on different
criterion to assess current condition of bridges via a devised condition rating methodology for
Pakistan. The principal aim of this study is to develop a program that will help prepare a bridge
maintenance prioritization plan using an algorithm that utilizes multiple variables customized
based on Pakistan’s requirements. This study shall also provide a reference for load rating module
with procedure for critical bridges by structural analysis using live load models.
