Abstract:
This documentary project investigates the challenges faced by street vendors in Islamabad, Pakistan, focusing on their economic significance and the hurdles posed by inadequate legal recognition. Street vending, a crucial component of Pakistan's informal economy, provides employment for millions but remains poorly regulated, leading to marginalization and exploitation. Despite the sector's contribution to affordable goods and economic opportunities, vendors often operate without proper licenses, facing harassment and eviction. The documentary will explore the historical and current policies affecting street vendors, highlighting why many struggle to obtain licenses and proposing potential solutions to improve their situation.
