Abstract:
Waste tires represent 2-3% of all waste collection, according to the world business council for
development approximately 4-billion waste tires are currently in landfills and stockpiles. In
past used of crumb rubber modified based asphalt pavements received a lot of attention due to
its superior road service performance and low carbon environmental traits, owing to expanding
application of crumb rubber in flexible pavements and heading towards the green and
sustainable approach of waste management, this study focused on the utilization of crumb
rubber with Poly-Phosphoric Acid (PPA) in flexible Pavements by Wet method. The study
primarily goal is to establish the ideal ratio of crumb rubber with poly phosphoric acid (PPA)
for hot mix asphalt utilizing the wet technique, which involves replacing bitumen content with
crumb rubber rejuvenator with PPA modifiers for high temperature areas. This study
specifically intends to replace a portion of bitumen with modifiers such as crumb rubber and
PPA. With the intention the crumb rubber modifier percentage was added in the interval of
2% up to 10% while the percentage of PPA was kept constant at 2% of the bitumen content.
Optimum Binder Content (OBC) was determined by using ASTM D-6927 marshal technique.
For the purpose conventional bitumen test and modified tests were performed on virgin and
crumb rubber modified bitumen (CR) which includes rotational viscosity, rolling thin film,
direct shear rheometer test, pressure aging vessels tests was conducted for performance
evaluation of modified asphalt concrete mixes. With the inclusion of polymers like crumb
rubber and PPA the physical and rheological properties
enhance tremendously.
