Abstract:
The agricultural sector is the backbone of Pakistan's economy, supporting a large part of its population and contributing significantly to country’s economy. However, certain regions lacking essential research and training infrastructure have grappled with meeting the nation's food requirements due to limited knowledge, reliance on traditional farming methods, and lack of modern technology to combat challenges such as erratic climates, loss of cultivable land, and reduced crop yields due to water scarcity.
Mianwali district, situated in the rain-fed tract of Punjab province, is predominantly reliant on agriculture. Although there's notable national-level research in progress, the absence of a dedicated research facility in the area has created a gap between local farmers and ongoing research, amplifying the profound impact of climate on the region's agriculture. Thus, this thesis endeavors to initiate an agricultural awareness project in Mianwali, with the aim of enlightening individuals on how to optimize the productivity of their land. AgroHub is envisioned as a farmer-centric research and training center, prioritizing education, awareness, and innovation. The hub operates on the principles of awareness-building, innovation, knowledge, collaboration, and social interaction. It encompasses purpose-built spaces dedicated to farmers, including well-equipped workshops, specialized training facilities, research zones, interactive living laboratories, engaging exhibition walkways, and recreational areas. These elements collectively aim to establish a focal point for interest and progress, working hand in hand with the local farming community to promote advancements and sustainability in agriculture. The center serves as a comprehensive educational and training facility, catering specifically to the needs of local farmers and communities in the Mianwali District. It sets a commendable precedent for rain-fed regions, offering effective solutions to the challenges that impede optimal crop yield and land utilization.
