Tanzil-e-Rahi: Reimagining the Adda Typology

Abstract

GTS chowk in Faisalabad acts as a point of connection between different vehicular means. The presence of a railway station and Faisalabad’s main private bus adda makes it a site rich with traffic and the problems that traffic brings. Addas have always been the Centre point of vehicular movement for inter and intra city travel. The objective of my thesis is to reform one such adda located in GTS Chowk. This thesis examines and adds innovation to the already established concept of adda will focus on identifying the problems on the site that are causing traffic congestion and not only improve it but morph it by creating a transit complex that caters to all the vehicular needs and to the commercial needs provided that the addas are the entry point to a city and must reflect not only the culture of the city but also provide a commercial space for people entering the city. By understanding vehicular patterns and traffic routes the designed transit hub/complex will not only give a solution to the traffic problem on the site but also help in the fast growth of the industrial aspect of the city.
