Abstract:
To ensure the stability of construction for long term, the focus is on the adoption of sustainable
and economical soil stabilization solutions. This research report includes a thorough
investigation into using marble dust as a soil stabilizer for improving soil stability in wellgraded sand soil. The goal of this study is to look at the possible advantages and potential
impact of marble dust in enhancing the geotechnical behavior of well-graded sand soil. A
geotechnical investigation was conducted to assess the physical and mechanical qualities of
the well-graded sand soil. The shear strength behavior of soil is investigated, which is
important for multiple geotechnical problems. Moreover, it is observed that soft pockets are
found in many soil conditions. This soil type has a low bearing capacity, as a result, it cannot
withstand any high loading conditions. So, multiple direct shear tests were performed on the
samples with increasing percentages (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) of marble dust (weight basis)
to determine the shear strength behavior of the two types of dry sandy soil samples. The
experimental results demonstrate that when the amount of marble dust in each sample
increases, the angle of internal friction lowers significantly, and cohesiveness increases. Thus,
adding marble dust can improve soil stability, and it can help to use shallow foundations than
deep foundations as it will be economically an appropriate and viable idea
