Abstract:
The prime responsibility of Geo-Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (Geo-ISR) is to provide the war fighters, commanders and decision makers with precise and timely information to assist them in understanding the capabilities of the adversary in order to make well-informed and well-timed decisions to achieve the overall goal of decision superiority which is the life blood for the success of any military operation. In order to utilize the capabilities of Geographic Information System (GIS) for analysis, this research was conducted to develop a tool to unlock the hidden meaningful pattern of the databases. The primary objectives of this study were to develop a web based application that would make all geospatial data available to the users through web browser and facilitate the commanders in decision making by performing spatial analysis and dynamic mapping. For this purpose client/server three-tier architecture was used. Application was developed using the ArcGIS server software development kit (SDK) for .net with C# as programming language which worked on business logic layer. The application programming interfaces (APIs) of ArcGIS Server are used for the required analysis. Web server hosted the ASP.net application at business logic layer as client application. Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) served for the communication of client and server. The tool disseminated the vector and raster spatial data over web browser within the intranet for viewing and browsing along with answers to spatial queries on the basis of parameters like width, height, length, elevation, type, distance and area regarding the assets of battlefield. It also provided analysis support for identifying the potential targets on which some airfield depends in order to isolate or neutralize it. It is recommended that the inputs from all real time data acquisition systems be integrated into the databases to get the real-time picture of the battlefield.
