Flood is a devastating event that can cause massive destruction to human and economy of a region. To minimize these effects structural and non-structural measures should be taken before implementation of any physical plan. Hydrological and Hydraulic modeling
xii
is used in this study for flood forecast and provides base for non-structural management measures for flood risk mitigation.
Rainfall was taken from Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) due to unavailability of stations data in catchment area of Chenab River. SRTM 30m Digital elevation model was used for physical parameters extraction such as sub-basins and stream network etc. HEC-HMS model estimates rainfall runoff potential and generates hydrograph i.e. Discharge with respect to time for head Marala outlet.
Discharge data was used for simulation of HEC-RAS, run from head Marala to Khanki reach for flood modeling of year 2014. High resolution google imagery was used for geometric data preparation such as river, cross section and flow paths etc. HEC-RAS model generates inundation area, depth and velocity of flow raster by using manning coefficient for each land use and discharge data.
Models were calibrated and validated on year 2014 and 2011 respectively. |
