Arsenic content in water has proven deadly in many areas of Pakistan due to the lack of
knowledge in regard to the purification of the content of water. The areas that are largely
affected due to this problem are mainly those, where there is lack of education to the people
regarding the necessity of clean water. One such area has been included in the following study
where arsenic content can be found in water at an elevated level. Water samples from Seismandi,
near the city of Risalpur in KPK province, were taken and subjected to thorough testing.
Arsenic content of 0.04 mg/l was found and it was quite evident that the area required quick
and cost effective measures to deal with the crisis situation. The water was purified with the help
of Alum and Lime and the test showed an improvement in the quality of water with 80-100%
removal of arsenic content from water. After test, readings showed 0.00mg/l to 0.01mg/l content
of arsenic.
The following study suggests cost effective and efficient removal techniques, which can be
adopted in order to deal with the arsenic crisis in areas where people are deprived of clean and
pure water. It also suggests that people in such areas should be educated about the hazards they
face due to arsenic contamination of water |
