dc.description.abstract The intent of this research is to identify sites for communal facilities and parks for the Shigar Town. Rational and useful spatial distribution of communal facilities and utilities has vital significance for sustainable planning and better hygienic environment for a settlement. Buffering and overlaying various thematic layers were used to select the sites. Two aspects, communal wash-rooms and parks were considered during the study. A GIS based database model was developed for Shigar Town, for inventory of all utilities network. Raster overlay analyses techniques were performed to achieve results. Maps of Shigar town were developed by conducting a detailed survey of land use, and utility lines with the help of GPS, satellite image and filed survey. This research discovered that the spatial model offered a better fit than conventional, non-spatial decision-making models. This study also discovered that in the presence of quantitative variables, locational and transportation factors were strong determinants of site selection. On the other hand, the number of desired communal sites was suggested on the average population of each neighborhood (called Hamlet). This found to be a significant factor for distribution of the communal site. Stepwise overlaying techniques were used to determine rational site for Public Park. For future research an investigation on electricity network simulation model could be performed for distribution and consumption of power facility. en_US
