The telecommunications industry is on the brink of a GIS mutiny. A GIS can serve modified information to sales, network operations, engineering experts, customer services, and even the clients/customers, using a common distributed database. The extension and integration of GIS with a database facilitates the mining of spatial information as per the user requirements. Due to the great deal of spatial and attribute data coupled with the diverse telecommunications industry, its logical to use GIS for storing, managing, analyzing, and visualizing the data. This research presents a GIS-based application developed by customizing the ESRI’s software ArcGIS Desktop and Microsofts’s .NET framework. It incorporates GIS functions with a graphical user interface to help network operations and customer relations in the analysis of the network geographically and respond to the customer queries more effectively. The GIS application was developed to assist customer relations and network operations in dropped calls detection, integration of the trouble ticket system, customer routing to the nearest facility, gap analysis, base station outages and intelligent spatial expansion of the existing network. |
