Mobile GIS is a remarkable advancement as a result of the evolution of mobility and development in the geoinformatics. Users can utilize personally selected spatial, temporal and attribute information anytime and everywhere. Location Based Services are the good example of Mobile GIS. Mobile GIS framework holds the responsibility to provide user a better service. This research discusses the mobile GIS frameworks and compares different existing frameworks for mobile GIS. A standalone framework proposed by Dr. Mohamed A. Eleiche also implemented in order to verify its working. A standalone framework for Mobile GIS provides the liberty to access the most desired data from the local hard drive and memory of the mobile device. When a mobile user is on the move and he/she need to access his/her data from the server, it is better to have that data locally stored in the memory of the mobile device. Although now we have mobile phones with enormous memory size but it is impossible to have all of the data stored locally and hence interested part of the data can be stored and accessed when needed. Most of the time user is not allowed to access the system and hardware freely because of the proprietary issues. Open Source operating systems like Android provides liberty to customize the system and applications. The results after implementation shows that standalone framework can perform well and facilitate different location based services and applications for personal information systems like personal calendars and trip managers. |
