Abstract:
Pakistan is rich in mineral resources, yet its mining industry is vastly underdeveloped.
Information processing in mines is still heavily reliant on paper-based documents and maps for
processing mine information. This thesis proposes an approach for making an information
model of a mining enterprise based on BIM technologies. A prototype information model of
the tourist region of the Khewra mine was developed in Revit, based on IFC-schema. The
model established the relationship between the overall system and the components of the
mine's working unit. The Revit model was further developed and rendered in Unity, an opensource
game developing software, for the first-person perspective (FPP) movement. To
consider the underground spatial structure surrounding the mine, 3D geological model was
made in python using a neural network classifier, Multi-layer Perceptron classifier, applied on
the Scikit Learn library. Lastly, the tunnel information model, Unity model, and geological
model were integrated into a single web-based application that was developed using Power BL
The application can be used by mine managers and engineers to oversee different tasks taking
place in mines such as daily production, statuses of movable and non-movable assets, and daily
profit or loss. Furthermore, the FPP movement would allow tourists to have a visual tour of the
mme.
