The problem of spontaneous combustion due to firedamp ( coal mine gases) along with roof collapse is
of grave importance in coal mine industry. Each and every single miner works under this threatening
environment and millions of people die because of such mine accidents. The main objective of this
project is to provide an early warning system based on WSN and IoT technologies. This project
involves integration of sensor technology, ambient intelligence, spatial databases and web based user
interface. With the development in the field of GIS new technological advancements have emerged as
spatial data is of utmost importance so with the incorporation of GIS this system will provide an
effective, reliable and cost efficient solution for a safer and advanced coal mine industry.
By acquiring concentration of different harmful gases from different sensors the concept of WSN is
provided. Storing all that information in a NoSQL database online we are using the help of spatial
databases and IoT. RFID tracking system is introduced to incorporate GIS technology which then
emerges into an effective and reliable early warning monitoring system. A tangible prototype is
produced that can be easily get adopted by coal mine management of both government and private
sector.
