dc.description.abstract With ever increasing population, cities are becoming more prone to pollution mainly due to improper waste management system. It creates unhygienic environment for the citizens leading to the spread of infectious diseases and fatal illnesses. To cater this problem, a smart waste management system is proposed in this project in which public dustbins will be installed with embedded devices which will help in real-time monitoring of level of garbage bin, concentration of emission of gases from biodegradable waste and weight of garbage collected in the bins. The real-time data will be used in generating automated alerts and providing optimized routes to the drivers to only those garbage bins which need to be collected for which an android application will be used. This will result in reduced fuel consumption and reduced human time and effort. The proposed system also includes a web application which has the capability of providing previous data as well as the routing efficiency analysis in order to analyze the efficiency of the whole system. The proposed system saves from unnecessary cleanup cost and promotes a hygienic environment. The system can be made more efficient by introducing the disaggregation mechanism to differentiate between recyclable, non-recyclable and dry waste for which inductive and infrared sensors can be used. iii en_US
