dc.description.abstract |
Architecture has become symbol of status. People have left behind the vernacular
techniques and moving towards postmodern approach. !n northern Pakistan, a specific
vernacular architecture is being followed since centuries. Near battal Mansehra Pakistan
few rural settlements had their unique vernacular style of living in every aspect but it lost its
spirit with the passage of time mainly after earthquake. Bringing back the essence of
vernacular living by use of local resource and reviving the culture by adopting the old ideas
of community living as well as adapting contemporary style of designing flexible spaces is
the main aim of the project. To achieve this craft school based on vernacular architecture
considering structural issues of the site will be designed in the foot hills of singlekot village
battle Mansehra. Craft School based on the idea of self-sufficient approach will include
spaces for workshops, studios, vocational centers and modern technique workshops.
Infrastructure will be strengthened by making internal roads and pathways so that it
becomes accessible to everyone. It will help in revenue generation as well. Coming up with
fusion of contemporary and vernacular materials and construction technique will be main
focus of thesis. |
