The primary argument arises when the basics of architecture are proposed to be understood
using the key of "language1". This non-metaphorical architectural language's existence can
be proved using the generic methodology of architectural semantics; the identification of
patterns generated by built forms on a controlled site of multi layered history and their
inevitable reception and effect.
This brings up the secondary work of action which is to conclude on a site setting that can be
dissected to understand its need for a possible additive intervention. This intervention's
program, form, materiality and authenticity are the future of the site morphing. The
indigenous richness and containment is the base to select Saidpur Village as the heritage to
decode and scalp one layer at a time. This space till date inhabits a communal life within its
boundaries. It is because of these physical and historical parameters and also because of its
proximity to the urban scapes (Islamabad) that Saidpur stands as the prime candidate for
plausible regeneration and intervention.
Integration is one of the biggest attributes towards human lifestyle and its architectural
manifestation. This idea has been adopted and merged into human primitive instincts which
generates its need to build up junctions or as some may call nodes. If space of any dwelling is
taken into consideration, the thing that comes forth is that the connections within it give birth
to nodes in terms of spaces which develop to become the transitional social hubs. With these
routings and linkages a lifestyle develops and shapes the idea of communal life. This social life
becomes the real asset of the culture and heritage which means that it exists as a direct
translation of the meta-language of architecture of that time and place. Any field of study on a site concludes its user groups and comes forward to define land
ownerships and personal attachments. Where public spaces remain a step away from this
emotional remembrance, areas of dwelling2 become more acquainted with its users. This
paradigm when placed upon Saidpur, the dichotomies of the two user fabrics i.e.; the urban
visitors and the rural dwellers becomes one of the targeted resolution area of interest.
This project aims to integrate these concepts together and redefine the idea of public spaces
on the site. It is this intervention which can then become the module to resonate the coming
dialects of the identified pattern (grammar}. |
