Abstract:
Hospitality architecture deals with the users coming to the building for entertainment,
luxury and for their more permanent provided service. It has one main and sub programs
which complement the main program. Hospitality is about providing an experience by
showcasing the surrounding landscape within the exiting perimeter of the building, making
it more exclusive. This has resulted in hospitality to become an isolated entity in itself. This
thesis looks into redefining and extending the boundaries of hospitality and finding a
balance between exclusivity and inclusivity.
For a program to be successful in an urban fabric it needs to fulfil one these two
requirements. One, there is a need and it fulfils it or second, it creates a need and generate
programs to fulfil it. I am interested in the combination of these two. For that I propose
sharing of sub program between the main programs with the surround context rather
having the similar sub program in both areas. This would result in the development of a
symbiotic relationship with the present urban fabric and extending the experience of the
building outside to the immediate surroundings. With this approach, the program would be
fulfilling the need as well as redeveloping or regenerate the immediate context as well. The
site will play a major role in the decision of the program as it needs to have raw materials to
showcase as well the present urban fabric which requires the attention and which will be
able to provide the sub programs.
