THE SOCIAL HUE: Recreational Complex

Abstract

Architecture is not only the representation and expression of the society, rather it serves as the platform for human interaction and it has a social activity and positivity attached to it. It is not only something as simple as subject and object relationship; rather it can be understood as emotions, behaviorand actions of the humanswho interact with it. Talking of behaviors and social activity, the term recreation holds a great significance._Recreation is a complex subject, extensive in human experience, rich and countless over time and place. Architecture with its explicit intention to influence behavior has the capability to serve human beings as a forum for recreation and joy. "Our obligation as architects is to contribute to the happiness ofmen" (Ito) As a civilization, humans have been described as evolutionary creatures. Whether this evolution is biological or psychological, man has developed tools to achieve little with more. Alongside this the science or art of architecture has alsocrept along._The nature of both of these is something that can cover countless possibilities and can be described as an interaction of subjective facts. Just like every other tool man has used this to create more; rejecting or often improving previous norms. As a society, Pakistan itself has faced several disruptions, often in the form of political instability. Currently however, the issue of terrorism and specific targeting of civilians is what has been impacting the country's overall growth and prosperity. So there is a dire need in the society to find sources of joy where complete relaxation alongside those closest to us can be experienced. The purpose of architecture itself is to act as a facilitator and it is only through this 1 collaboration that it can maintain its relevance as a tool. In a nutshell, this project can be described as an integration of the general climate of its capital, Islamabad, with the societal need of harmony and recreation. A domain which can offer recreation to people belonging to every age group; capturing and seizing the very essence of Islamabad. For the child there is amusement, for the adult it is the relief of burdens and for the architect it's something very simple.
