dc.description.abstract Food and all that is associated with it has become more than a necessity, it is now an alternative art form. The presentation of food has become a narrative for the diverse cultural practices in our consumer-oriented societies. In the past dining was considered one of the most performative events. The negotiated status of performer and audience finds resonance with that between hosts and guests and an opportunity to reaffirm or challenge the rituals and etiquette by which they operate. The performative element of food has elevated its craft to be defined as culinary arts. Culinary arts and performance arts finds junction in that it sees food as an aesthetic object, as a status symbol and as entertainment. Food now has become larger than life. It has become performative and theatrical. The thesis aims to utilize these performative elements to generate events that could translate into spaces. The events, that would focus on celebration of food, in these spaces would attract participants (user) thereby creating a platform that would connect people in an urban sector. en_US
