dc.description.abstract Chiniot is the ancient city of the Pakistan and is known for the tremendous furniture work all over the world. Nowadays, Traditional furniture and wooden handicrafts by the local tarkhans of the region have reduced their value within the country because of Issues like unsustainable wood resource handling, sub-standard technology, static design and lacking production innovation. As a result, the overall standard of furniture production has been reduced. Thus there is a need of an institute which would bring together tarkhans, designer, students and public to collaborate and learn how to compete in world by providing them information about new trends and techniques. An interactive atmosphere would give them a chance to learn and exchange the ideas, techniques and skill at a single platform. For this purpose ,this thesis deals with formal vocational education of tarkhan and their introduction to new technology. Informal learning experiences and collaborative and interaction between different groups related to furniture sector is also a key element of the project. These cottage industries have a lot of experience and skill but less amount of resources and quality so it would be in the favor of Chiniot and the furniture sector to move a step ahead from the small cottage industry status into furniture networking culture by adopting novel designs and technologies and formalize training of workforce, none of which is currently the norm. en_US
