R&D CENTER FOR SIALKOT FOOTBALL INDUSTRY

Abstract

It is a well-practiced perception in our society that architecture is a field confined to residential, legislative, commercial and institutional building typologies only. Many walkers of various fields, especially business industry, find architectural thoughts and ideas quite irrelevant to their respective fields. But since architecture is about designing/ creating spaces where human beings spend whole, partial or a little bit time of their lives, so no area of life involving a physical built form can be outlawed from the field of architecture. Sialkot Football Industry needs no introduction throughout the globe when it comes to football production. But it is demand of time to keep every area of life up to date to cope up with the growing needs, modern trends and progress in technology. Through this thesis the share of architectural proficiency will be poured in to facilitate one of the prominent industries of Sialkot region with this new building typology, somewhat unlearned in the addressed context. Introduction of a Research & Development Center will not only imprint a positive impact on growth of the products but also it would be a fine way of providing local workmanship with more refined opportunities to face the increasing demands of international industry. Sialkot Soccer ball industry which is adding 60% share to the global football production has fallen over the years due to other competitors like China and India due to their vast technological knowledge. It is about time that our local industry gets revolutionized with introduction of an R&D Center. It is mandatory to introduce a separate department for this purpose as it is hard to carry out research and development activities in factories which are used for large scale production of goods. Architecture is a very powerful tool that can shape up any programme and field of life with an intelligent design. Thus in this case as well architecture is being used as a guiding light to not only facilitate Sialkot Football Industry with a modern day R&D Center to help it flourish but also earn recognition at national level with the help of an iconic design translated into a landmark, a representative building solidifying contributions of Sialkot Soccer Ball Industry to the economy of whole country.
