Abstract:
Fractures in Solid rocket motor grains pose a huge risk to structural integrity of grain. Ansys
APDL scripting language has been used to analyze fractures in rocket grains with different
geometry, material and loading. Simulation results show that crack propagation extensively depends on material and geometric parameters of the grain and the ignition pressures and
temperatures in the motor. Crack length-Temperature superimposition has been performed to
obtain master curves for the data. Parameterization of simulations resulted in developing a
tool for Solid Rocket Motor Grain designers to perform a quick fracture analysis during their design iterations.
