dc.description.abstract Principle of beam forming and steering using multiple antenna arrays led to the revolutionary knowledge of this time known as phased array technology or electronically steerable array (ESA). Phased array has removed the shortcomings of the its predecessor mechanical systems relying on the physical movement of the structure in order to steer the beam of the electromagnetic energy. Phased array technology instead relies on fast and reliable electronic components for the steering of the main beam to track high speed, maneuvering targets. Analytical modeling and simulation of phased array radar an important application of phased array technology is being focused in this work. Since mechanical systems are prone to errors, wear and tear as compared to electronic systems so they have short life as compared to phased arrays. This thesis focuses on the front-end modeling and simulation of the phased array radar and concept of beam steering in 1-D and 2-D antenna array. In order to prove concept of target detection, arbitrary target was placed at random location within the scan area of radar and position of target was accurately determined based on the maximum reflection from that location. en_US
