dc.description.abstract A smart energy meter strategically combines all the functionalities of traditional energy meters with new measurement and communication technology to create a system that is improved on many stages. It fulfills all the duties of the energy meters that are in place in Pakistan. In addition, our smart meter allows the consumers to view real-time consumption data so they could have a better grip on their usage and adjust it according to their budget. This data is transmitted by the meter through the internet to an online server. From here it is sent to an Android application, and it is displayed on both the meter’s digital display as well as on the application. We also share all this data to the energy supplier. With more accurate data, the supplying companies would have improved load forecasting capabilities, which would ultimately contribute to better utilization of the energy produced in Pakistan. Out meter is also equipped with anti- theft and anti-tamper capabilities. These capabilities inform the suppliers in the case of energy theft. It also improves utility operations by identifying where energy is being consumed, helps localize outages and highlights areas with possible energy theft. Smart meters are also back bone of smart grid. Without smart meter, smart grid is obsolete and cannot perform its functions as smart grids require some channel through which they can send and receive information they required about electricity and the sole channel for this purpose to achieve is smart meter as with the help of smart meter we will be able to establish two way communication which is core factor of smart grid. Then in the end future considerations are discussed which will prove helpful for the ones who want to extend this project and add more functions to it. en_US
