If we examine the charging scheme of Lithium Ion Batteries, they use mostly an open-loop
strategy. Normally the method used is Constant Current Constant Voltage method, in which the
temperature has zero effect, only the values of Current and Voltage are varied by which the
charging rate is controlled. This method is however slow and partially inefficient, we have used
in our FYP the CTCV method defined as Constant Temperature Constant Voltage method. This
method considers the temperature of the cell as a very important aspect. This proposed method
uses a very simple Transfer Function with feed-forward support.
The basic functionality is that the current for charging is altered dynamically with the increase in
the temperature of the cell, which keeps in consideration the thermal environment of the battery
too. With the application of our project, we have observed an overall 25% increasing in charging,
as compared to the other method. Ensuring that the change in temperature of cell is smaller than
18%.
Therefore this can easily solve the modern day issues where we have lesser time to charge our
devices and use them for a longer period of time. Therefore, this ensures the faster charging of
battery ensuring the battery long life as well. |
